Actor Burt Young, who played in the Rocky films, has died
American actor Burt Young, best known for his role as Paulie Pennino in the Rocky films, has died at the age of 83. transmits The New York Times newspaper.
He died on October 8 in Los Angeles, but the media became aware of this only on the night of October 19. His death was later confirmed by daughter Anne Morea Steingieser.
Bert Young was born on April 30, 1940 in New York. He took this name as an actor. According to one version, his real name was Gerald Tommaso DeLuise. He took up boxing while in the Marine Corps. His acting career began with meeting acting teacher Lee Strasberg when Young was about 20 years old.
He played in more than 160 films and TV series, the most famous of which are Once Upon a Time in America, six Rocky films, Transamerica, The Sopranos, etc. For his work on the film Chinatown (1974) Young was nominated for an Oscar in 1977 for Best Supporting Actor. In films, he most often played the roles of a mafia boss, a street detective or a worker.
