Academician Karaulov: From 20% to 30% of Russians suffer from allergies

Head of the Department of Clinical Immunology and Allergology of the Institute of Clinical Medicine named after N.V. Sklifosovsky Sechenov University, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN), Professor Alexander Karaulov said in an interview with TASS that from allergies 20-30% of residents suffer Russian Federation.

“According to various sources, from 20 to 30% of the population of the Russian Federation have allergies, the most significant allergens being birch and cat. Allergy is a multifactorial disease, and a large number of factors influence the severity and speed of development of symptoms,” the expert said.

Karaulov also added that the country currently does not have allergen-specific immunotherapy, a new generation of therapy used to treat allergies.
