A draft on punishment for investigative actions from abroad will be submitted to the State Duma



State Duma deputies have prepared a bill on punishment for illegal operational search activities and investigative actions carried out on Russian territory by officials of foreign states and international organizations in which Russia does not participate. This was announced by the Chairman of the Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption Vasily Piskarev.

“We are talking about actions to collect evidence, including remote and cross-border contacts from abroad, which are carried out in circumvention of our legislation, international treaties, and for purposes contrary to the interests of our country,” – explained he is on his Telegram channel.

Deputies propose adding a new article to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which provides for fines of up to two million rubles for illegal investigative actions. or imprisonment for a term of up to five years. The timing of introducing the bill into the State Duma has not been specified. At the time of writing the news, the initiative was not displayed in the electronic database of the Lower House.

Piskarev said that the initiative is aimed at protecting Russia’s sovereignty and is designed to protect the country’s citizens “from provocations of the intelligence services of unfriendly states.” As an example, he cited “encouraging Russians to testify in criminal cases inspired abroad and to travel abroad for their subsequent detention.”

At the end of September the State Duma approved in the first reading, the bill criminalizes public justification or propaganda of the ideology of extremism. Piskarev was also one of the authors of the amendments. The offense will be punishable by up to five years in prison.
