A criminal case was opened against the creator of Masyanya
A criminal case has been opened against a resident of St. Petersburg for calls against the security of the state. About it reports TASS with reference to the press service of the Main Investigations Directorate of the Russian Investigative Committee for the city.
The case was opened under Art. 280.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public calls for activities directed against the security of the state). The maximum penalty is up to seven years in prison.
Law enforcement agencies told the agency that the person involved is the creator of the cartoon “Masyanya,” Oleg Kuvaev. At the same time, Kuvaev previously stated that he had not received confirmation of the initiation of the case. “It’s too early to yell,” said he is TASS.
On the criminal case against the creator of Masyanya on October 18 reported Telegram channel “Mash on the Moika”. According to the resource, the reason was a video posted on YouTube in July, in which the hero calls on Russian soldiers to surrender.
Kuvaev himself is not in Russia now. “Mash on the Moika” writes that he lives in Israel. After the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, the animator repeatedly criticized the actions of the Russian authorities in new episodes about Masyanya. In March 2022 Roskomnadzor demanded remove one of the episodes with references to the special operation. The Mult.ru website, where the Masyanya episodes were posted, is blocked.
